Sphero – EFDN STEM Network Partner
The European Football for Development Network (EFDN) is pleased to announce a new partnership with Sphero. The partnership has been established to strengthen the EFDN STEM Network programme launched in 2019 together with 15 clubs and the Belgian Pro League. The first meeting at Chelsea FC in London was an assembly of like-minded, European football clubs and foundations, who wish to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education as a new area for community programmes. All the meeting participants all pledged to take their first steps towards driving innovation in STEM education through football.
The partnership on the STEM Network programme will see Sphero support EFDN with their technology, robots, and resources while guiding clubs interested in delivering STEM programmes, especially via their innovative and exciting sports specific coding solution, Sphero Sports!
Sphero Sports was specifically built for sports foundations, schools, and community and social responsibility-driven organisations to deliver Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education. They offer a Sphero Sports coding bundle that is an all-in-one solution and the perfect way to get students excited about STEM learning through a sport they already know and love. Additionally, it provides foundations and educators with the perfect platform from which to start teaching STEM. Sphero wants to support EFDN members as they start to take their first steps into STEM education and empower the foundations to offer engaging, meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that encourage active learning and teach the critical STEM skills needed in today’s society.
“We have founded the EFDN STEM Network because we want to build a platform to exchange knowledge and provide clubs that have not started with STEM programmes yet with resources and the right technology. Sphero Sports offer both. This new partnership will help us to equip children and youth all across Europe with important skills for the future while having a lot of fun”, said Hubert Rovers, CEO EFDN Foundation.
“At Sphero we inspire the creators of tomorrow through remarkably cool, programmable robots, electronic building blocks, and educational tools that transform the way kids learn and create through coding, science, music, and the arts. We are extremely excited to become the official STEM Network programme partner of EFDN and are looking forward to supporting the STEM education ambitions of football foundations and leagues across Europe,” said Matt Mead, Sports Partnerships Manager at Sphero.
“The skills students unlock through coding prepare them to thrive, no matter what subject or career they pursue. Sphero tools help bring math, science, music, and art lessons off the pages of a textbook and into real-world applications, especially our new sports specific coding bundle, Sphero Sports!”, he added.
